The Event

On behalf of The Kent Great Big Dig for the IWK, we are excited to welcome you back!

The region’s most anticipated and exciting fundraising event is November 4, 2023. The Great Big Dig event brings you an unforgettable evening of food, entertainment, amazing auction items, prizes, and great company.

The last few years have been a global challenge; however, here in the Maritimes, we have thrived within our community; supporting one another through the pandemic while continuing to support the IWK. As you know, the continued generosity of the community and our sponsors have allowed The Great Big Dig to substantially impact the lives of children, youth, women, and families in our region even during the height of the pandemic.

The Purpose

Thank you for digging deep for Maritime patients and families who rely on the IWK for specialized and life-saving care. Funds raised at the 2023 Kent Great Big Dig will help purchase equipment required for the integration of one of the pediatric operating rooms at the IWK.

In the context of an operating room, “integration” is the connection of all the components and tools. The pediatric operating rooms currently have several pieces of equipment that are past their lifespan and can no longer integrate reliably. The current equipment is also no longer available to integrate with the OR conference room to allow for education, teaching and remote observation.

The pieces of equipment requiring upgrades include surgical booms, lights, monitors, endoscopy equipment (to view hollow organs) and insufflators (used during laparoscopic surgery). When integrated, all technology can be controlled from a central command console. These improvements will help ensure enhanced efficiency, communication and infection control while resulting in faster recoveries, shorter stays in hospital and reduced wait times.

Entertainment

The Mellotones

The Mellotones have been bringing their high-octane party to stages around the world. Lighting up dance floors wherever they go, the R&B Funk band is an eight-piece powerhouse. From corporate events to festivals, or from sweaty late-night clubs to weddings, their in-demand, energetic show provides the perfect atmosphere for any occasion.

The Mellotones celebrated their 25th anniversary as a band in 2022. A rare silver celebration for any band in the music industry.

Breagh Isabel

Knowingly or not, listeners of Canadian music have likely already stumbled upon Breagh Isabel’s creative handiwork. Her tracks have been featured on CW’s Batwoman and Grey’s Anatomy. She now calls Halifax home but was born and raised in Cape Breton. Isabel studied jazz piano in university before joining forces with Port Cities, who successfully toured around Canada and Europe.

Isabel fell in love with songwriting and the ability to turn everyday, mundane life experiences into something relatable.

Jodi Guthro

Jodi Guthro is a Canadian singer songwriter. Growing up in a home filled with professional musicians, it did not take Jodi long to find her own place in the music business, uncovering a unique style of Country/Pop. She has written
for a variety of artists including Walker Hayes and Neon Dreams.

Whether it is writing for her own projects or for fellow artists, her dedication and prolific talent continuously shine through. Jodi’s distinctive voice, infectious songs, and humble confidence mark her as someone to watch.

Irish Mythen

Irish Mythen was born in Ireland and now resides in Charlottetown, PEI. Her latest release, Little Bones, gained her recognition around the globe, including a 2020 JUNO nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year. Write-ups in Australian Guitar Magazine, Rollingstone and a plethora of other print and online media world-wide have helped plant Irish firmly on the map of Must-See Artists.

Irish’s live performances are a thing of raw power, emotion and a connection with her audience that just has to be seen to be believed.
